With the start of winter travel peak times there are an additional 20 kiosks available, making a total of 28, so that passengers can enjoy faster, hassle-free check-in with quick seat selection, boarding pass printing, and bag-tag generation.

Sri Lanka remains committed to enhancing efficiency and elevating the travel experience for all who pass through BIA.

Visiting Sri Lanka Has Never Been Easier

Sri Lanka is stepping boldly into the future of travel convenience! Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), the country’s main gateway, has just expanded its self-check-in facilities, making it smoother than ever for tourists to start their island adventure.

A Seamless Arrival Experience
With over 300,000 tourists expected in December alone, the timing couldn’t be better. SriLankan Airlines’ Airport and Ground Services—the sole ground handling provider at BIA—has rolled out 28 self-check-in kiosks at the departure terminal.

These kiosks, designed by the airline’s in-house IT team, are transforming the passenger experience by cutting down queues and simplifying the check-in process.

How It Works
Travelers can now:

  • Select their seats
  • Print boarding passes
  • Generate bag tags

All in just a few easy steps. No more waiting in long lines at traditional counters. In fact, 15% of SriLankan Airlines passengers already use these kiosks, proving how quickly travelers are embracing the convenience.

Boosting Tourism & Efficiency

This initiative isn’t just about technology it’s about welcoming the world to Sri Lanka with ease and efficiency.

By reducing congestion and speeding up the check-in process, the airport is ensuring that visitors spend less time worrying about logistics and more time enjoying the country’s breathtaking beaches, cultural treasures, and wildlife safaris.

Deepal Pallegangoda, Head of Airport and Ground Services, summed it up perfectly:

“Our enhanced self-check-in facilities will further support the airport’s capacity enhancement efforts, while reaffirming SriLankan Airlines’ prominent position in advancing digital airport solutions in the region.”

Why This Matters for Travelers
For families, solo adventurers, and business travelers alike, this means a stress-free start to your Sri Lankan journey. Whether you’re heading to the Cultural Triangle, the misty hills of Ella, or the golden sands of Mirissa, your trip begins with ease the moment you step into BIA.
